The Norwegian coast is one of the most exciting and varied adventure destinations in the world with its stirring and varied landscapes. A voyage with Hurtigruten lets you explore all the highlights of this epic coast, and takes you close to the culture and the everyday life of people living here.

The northern shore of Norway offers spectacular scenery, including Finnmark’s wide plains, the North Cape, and the Vesterålen and Lofoten islands. As you cross the polar circle, the climate becomes milder but the landscapes are no less impressive. Along the route there are millions of things to see, and lots of things to do – both on board and on land. Have breakfast at the North Cape, challenge yourself to a mountain hike in Hammerfest or Lofoten, explore the wilderness on a snowmobile or on a dog sled, enjoy a hi-octane RIB adventure, or see the cultural highlights.

Visiting 34 ports along the Hurtigruten Route is a great way to experience the authentic Norway. See small settlements with less than 200 inhabitants and the big cities teeming with life. As you reach Bergen, the last port of call, you have completed a journey that has taken place along the Norwegian coast every day for the last 120 years. How’s that for authentic?

Voyage Itinerary

The Voyage South (Kirkenes – Bergen) is great for those in search of incredible scenery as it includes a daylight sailing through the idyllic, mountainous Vesterålen and Lofoten Islands, and past the Seven Sisters mountain range and Torghatten! Plus, you'll have a chance to ride the Dovre Railway through breathtaking countryside right into Oslo.

Day 1:Kirkenes - Berlevåg

Your adventure starts at Hurtigruten's turning point. As the ship begins its voyage south, you can first enjoy a wonderful lunch followed by views of Arctic wilderness from deck or the panorama lounge. During the winter season, there will be a presentation on Pomor trade history. In the afternoon the ship docks in Vardø, Norway’s easternmost port. Weather permitting, we may invite you to experience ice bathing in the Arctic Ocean during winter season. On board there will also be a presentation of ‘Life in the sea’ in spring. In winter, local Arctic divers will bring displays and give a lecture out on deck about life in the ocean. We continue along the Varanger peninsula to Båtsfjord before reaching Berlevåg in the evening.

Day 2:Mehamn - Tromsø

In the middle of the night we dock at Mehamn, where it is possible to join an unforgettable snowmobile trip through one of Europe’s most extreme and exciting natural areas. Experience the snow-clad valleys, the fresh winter air, and a chance to witness the mesmerizing northern lights in the clear, starry sky.

Day 3:Tromsø - Stamsund

The daylight sailing through the Lofoten Islands is a highlight for many Hurtigruten guests. The Lofoten region is renowned for its natural beauty with steep mountains, wild nature, and small, picturesque fishing villages. This day also offers several exciting excursions that will make you feel like a natural-born explorer.

Day 4:Bodø - Rørvik

The Helgeland coast, with its hundreds of islets, fertile farmland, and steep granite walls, is rich in local lore. Legends include how an arrow fired by the Hestmannen troll formed the hole in Torghatten Mountain.

Day 5:Trondheim - Ålesund

Today gives an opportunity to explore the city of Trondheim. Passing the islands of Munkholmen, Hitra, and thousands of islets and skerries, we stop in Kristiansund and then cross the open sea on our way to Molde.

Day 6:Ålesund - Bergen

During the night, the ship will call at Ålesund, Torvik, and Måløy as the world’s most beautiful voyage draws to a close. Make the most of your final impressions of Norway.
