  • The autumn light and its bright colors and clean air enhance the tranquil atmosphere.
  • Cross the Arctic Circle and maybe see the magical northern lights
  • Visit the town next to the Russian border and Hurtigruten’s turning point, Kirkenes.
  • Enjoy an RIB safari to Saltstraumen near Bodø, which has the world’s strongest tidal current.

As summer fades, the first cool evenings summon the colors of autumn. There is a sense of expectation in the air. Along the Norwegian shores the clear air accentuates the reds and yellows, which fill the mountainsides, hilltops, and woods. And above the Arctic Circle you might see the northern lights.

Autumn is a tranquil time on board Hurtigruten, and you get the time to enjoy the bright colors, the fresh air, and the beautiful scenery we pass. The birds migrate after a productive summer, and the Arctic light shortens. From the deck, framed by an icy blue sky, you can see a sprinkling of early snow on the highest peaks and there’s a sense of expectation in the air. Each port and the different parts of the coast give you the opportunity to experience something different. The darkness comes gradually and the sun sets earlier and earlier.

HARVEST BOUNTY

Autumn is harvest time all over Norway, and you get a chance to taste local specialties such as reindeer meat and cloudberries on deck. Our seasonal menu offers the best produce from the season and the areas we sail in, such as reindeer from Finnmark, salmon from Skjervøy, and apples from the fjords. Nature’s pantry is full of delicacies ready for harvesting, and our onboard menu, activities, and excursions reflect this. You will have culinary experiences not only at the restaurants, but also through storytelling.  An elderly woman in Finnmark has handpicked the cloudberries, and she personally delivers them to our ships. As part of our Autumn Gold concept, we serve the berries out on deck. Experiences with Hurtigruten don’t get more real than this.
